Fortune Cookie Soap FCS of the Month Club Subscription Box Review | March 2018

A little info on this subscription: I have been a huge fan of Fortune Cookie Soap for a few years. My love for this company started with their quarterly subscription box; I have been subscribed since 2013! Fortune Cookie Soap launched an additional monthly box: FCS of the Month Club in 2017. Each monthly box has a different theme or category, and past monthly boxes have included household, shower, and natural. Scents include past favorites and new additions, and each box features at least one brand new product! The monthly box is $28.00 per month, with a shipping cost of 6.95. Your first box ships free with the code: FIRSTFCSBOX. The best part is that the items are full sized (except for two boxes: Halloween and 12 days of Christmas, which have more products but some are travel sized) and the total retail value is at least double the price of the monthly subscription! The items in the monthly box will be available at the end of each month for everyone to purchase just the items that appeal to them (or order backups of favorites).  The FCS website has much more information about signing up and examples of past boxes!

The theme for this box is Soap Scouts, aka Sailor Moon! I used to watch this show with my Dad when I was little, so it was pretty nostalgic to re-watch the first season in anticipation of this box. Sailor Mars is definitely still my favorite! The FCS scent descriptions are copied below in italics.

Love Me Chain- Shimmer Shower Oil

Protected by Venus, the panet of beauty, Guardian of Love, Sailor Venus! Allow this shower oil to shimmer you with the power of love! Allow the golden orange glow swirl about you with juicy pineapple and peach nectar infused with a blend of fresh mango, and lemon curd.

Named after Sailor Venus, this shower oil is meant to be sprayed on right before you get out of the shower and allowed to air dry. I was a little worried this would be too sparkly to be practical, but the shimmer is really subtle and more pearlescent than I was expecting. This would be fun to use before a night out or on vacation. The scent is very fruity, I notice the peach and pineapple the most with a little hint of mango.

Aqua Illusion- Liquid Bubble Bath

Protected by Mercury, planet of water, Guardian of Wisdom, Sailor Mercury! Douse yourself in water and repent in this luxurious bubble bath. The scents of mercurial water orchids, sweet blue agave, bergamot, pear nectar, and coconut blossoms will rejuvenate your mind to strategize with the inner Sailor Senshi.

This scent is inspired by Sailor Mercury! This product is super appropriate as Sailor Mercury uses bubbles to kill monsters. I don’t like the idea of taking baths, so I probably won’t be using this. I am not a huge fan of this scent, I notice the agave the most; it almost smells a little tequila-ish from the agave.

Moon Princess- Clarifying Shampoo

For Love and Justice, the pretty sailor suited solider Sailor Moon! In the name of the moon, I will punish you, untamed hair! Jelly filled donuts., bubblegum, cotton candy, and lemon drops, transform your locks to a state of complete serenity with this perfect liquid shampoo.

Named after the show’s title character, Sailor Moon! Sailor Moon *spoiler alert* turns out to be the lost Moon Princess re-incarnated!  I have never tried an FCS shampoo, so I am excited to see how it goes. This smells a little bakery, a little bubblegumy, a whole lotta sweet.

Fire Soul- Crackling Bath Crystals

Agent of Love and Fire, the pretty sailor suited solider Sailor Mars! In the name of Mars, I will chastise you for not relaxing! Top notes of bergamot, mandarin, and lemon satsuma, sprinted with lime and pear blossoms, sears into sore muscles with rays of freshly grated ginger and vanilla bean as the crackling sounds of popping candy faintly remember cracking fire emitted from the fuji of Sailor Mars.

I am a little bummed that there are two bath- specific products in this box because I hate taking baths! This product is named after Sailor Mars who uses fire to fight monsters. I think this is sort of like pop-rocks for your bath! This smells like oranges with a little hint of a floraly note.

Midknight Rose- Charcoal Mask

King of Earth and protector of skin, freshly squeezed lemonade, juicy strawberry, and raspberry blossoms garnished with iced rose petals soothe with blackest charcoal of Tuxedo La Smoking Bomber and calm event the most troubled skin types.

This is named after Tuxedo Mask! Charcoal masks are meant to pull all of the impurities out of your skin. I was surprised how liquidy this mask was in the jar, it seems to have a different texture than the charcoal mask that came in the Halloween monthly box. I have extremely sensitive skin so I don’t think I’ll be using this mask, but it smells nice and floraly.

Bring the Lightning- Bar Soap

Agent of Love and Courage, the pretty sailor suited solider Sailor Jupiter! I’ll make dirt feel so much regret, it’ll leave germs numb! Zesty green lime zaps away uncleanliness with force and strength of sugary vanilla and warm amber in rain-soaked spring woods.

This scent is inspired by Sailor Jupiter! Another personal preference, but I don’t like to use bar soaps. I KNOW I am so picky but what can ya do. This is my favorite scent in the box, it is very lime forward and delicious with a little creaminess from the vanilla.

This box was kind of a bust for me simply because of my own pickiness. I am excited that this is the spring “seasonal” box, so all of the scents will be available in additional products! I’ll be picking up my three favorite scents in the box: Bring the Lightning, Love me Chain, and Fire Soul in other products during the launch!

The items listed above, as well as additional “extended collection” scents and products will be available for purchase on Friday, March 30th at 10am PST. Next month’s theme is FCS Assemble, which will be a broad Marvel comics theme (time for me to start watching those movies). May’s theme will be Star Wars!
