After much internal debate, I finally decided to get MoviePass! If you haven’t heard of the service before, here is a quick explanation: for $9.99 per month, starting from when you activate your MoviePass card, you can watch a different movie in theaters once per calendar day. So if you really wanted to get your money’s worth you could see 30 movies for the low low price of $10. For most theaters you will need to be within 100 yards of a theater in order to “check in” by using the MoviePass app on your phone. After checking in you will go to the ticket booth to pay for your ticket with your MoviePass. And that’s it! One thing to keep in mind is that you cannot see the same movie multiple times, but with so many new movies coming out all the time this has never been an issue.
I had heard really good things from those that got their pass quickly and had no issues needing customer services’s assistance, but I had also heard really negative reviews of the service. My boyfriend and I decided to go for it, thinking the $9.99/month risk would be worth the reward of seeing all of the summer movies we wanted… (Incredibles 2, Jurassic World, Ocean’s 8, etc).
Luckily, my pass arrived very quickly. We ordered our passes on Saturday, June 9th and they arrived on Friday, June 15th. We decided to test out the pass almost immediately, and went to see A Quiet Place that night.

I’ve used my pass in three states at five different theaters and am happy to report I have not had a single issue. We saw 9 movies for $9.99! Can’t beat that deal. Here are the movies I saw this month:
Here are my top three tips for using MoviePass!
- Use online ticketing when you can!! This is an awesome feature that a few select theaters have. You don’t have to be near the theater to check in and you can choose your seat early in the day.
- Keep your movie stub! MoviePass has implemented a new rule to avoid “fraud”. Now some users must take a photo of their stub before they can check in for another movie. This step takes 10 seconds tops, but if you lose your stub before you submit a photo more than once your account will likely be terminated.
- Keep an eye out for “Peak” Pricing! This is a new policy MoviePass has implemented. For select films at select times, you will see a small red lightning bolt at the corner of the movie time. This indicates that the movie has an additional surcharge that will be charged to your payment method on file. If you really want to see the movie that night and don’t care about paying the additional money- go for it! But I have noticed most films lose their “Peak” status very soon after opening!
I am looking forward to my next month of movies! I can’t wait to see Christopher Robin, Mamma Mia 2, Crazy Rich Asians, The Darkest Minds, and many more!!
